The key principles of seconde IGCSE

Deepening knowledge

The seconde programme combines languages, literature, mathematics, humanities and biology. Pupils deepen the concepts they study and learn to apply them in a variety of situations.

High academic standards mean paying attention to accurate knowledge, sound reasoning and clear expression.

Developing high school working methods

Finding information, comparing sources, writing an analysis or presenting a project are all part of learning.

Pupils also develop their executive skills: planning their work, staying focused, managing deadlines and adjusting their methods. Feedback from teachers helps them understand their progress and the points to work on.

Learning to research and cite sources

Research plays an important role in the pathway. Pupils learn to select reliable resources, to distinguish their own ideas from those of authors and to cite their references.

Access to the resources of the American Library in Paris and the Bibliothèque nationale de France enriches their work. This approach prepares them for the more in-depth research required in the IB programme.

Broadening one’s view of the world

Studying languages, literature, history and international issues encourages pupils to compare different perspectives.

Group projects and debating activities help them learn to listen, argue and collaborate. They develop personal thinking enriched by encounters with other ideas and other cultures.

Preparing choices with a guidance coach

Guidance is built throughout the year. Workshops, individual meetings and discussions with families help pupils identify their interests and discover possible pathways.

They explore the subject combinations offered in the IB and begin to link them to their plans for higher education.
